Maximum City. The City of Dreams. The city that never sleeps. Mumbai has many a moniker, yet none can truly encapsulate the magic, the fortitude or the effervescent spirit of this massive slice of humanity that lives in a narrow strip of land along India’s western coast.
Mumbai is a city in constant churn. The gargantuan network of local trains brimming with street vendors, fashionistas and business executives alike, the ubiquitous food carts selling an assortment of butter roasted pav dishes even in its glitziest suburbs, the gilded glamour of its towering cityscape and the heady elixir of the power it wields as India’s financial capital, all speak of this city of contrasts.
These dichotomies are not parallel universes in this city, but constantly colliding realities. This is why, perhaps, anything is possible in Mumbai - a city that pays homage to the indefatigable ingenuity of the human mind to not just survive, but strive for a better, grander life.
Curtain call for the second premiere
It is only fitting then, that as the Transformation Express travelled to India’s richest city, there would be a second premier night awaiting at The Leela, Mumbai. Mrs. Nikita Das (Senior Director, Brand and Business Marketing - SAP India) set off the evening with her welcome address. Mr. Rahul Singh (Chief Marketing Officer - SAP India) delivered a comprehensive keynote speech, encapsulating the decades-long progress of technology in the country and the role SAP has played as a harbinger of digital transformation.
The highlight of the evening was the talk by Mr. Indraneel Chitale (Managing Director) of Chitale Bandhu Mithaiwale, a leading player in the Indian snack industry with a proud history of more than 80 years. Part of the Chitale Group of Industries, Chitale Bandhu Mithaiwale has grown from a 500 sq.ft. shop in Pune to a massive global enterprise with footprints in the EU, US, Middle East, South East Asia and Australia. Mr. Chitale explained how the company worked with SAP to achieve digital transformation that made its spectacular growth story possible.
The panel discussion that soon followed was marked by the same alacrity. Mr. Darshan Watve (Senior Director - SAP India) moderated the session that featured esteemed Dr. Avadhut Parab (Chief Information Officer) of Parle Agro Ltd., India’s largest beverage company and Mr. Yatish Pandey (Chairman and Managing Director), Texperts India Pvt. Ltd., an international textile sourcing, marketing and garment buying house established in 2002.
Considering the robust entrepreneurial community in Mumbai, there was a steady stream of guests, several of them prominent names in the commerce sector, boarding the Transformation Express to learn more of the latest cloud technology and other digital solutions for midmarket enterprises.
Bridging the tech divide in the public sector
Day 2 at Mumbai began at the Westin Hotel, where a delegation of state government officials got on board the Transformation Express. Through a series of engaging sessions and discussions, SAP customers and solution experts pitched in their viewpoints about how government agencies could transform into intelligent enterprises.
The gala event later that night was hosted at The Leela, with SAP partner Intellect Bizwire taking the lead. Following the keynote address by Mr. Darshan Watve, Mr. Sanjay Gupte (Chief Technology Officer - Intellect Bizware) joined Mr. Watve in moderating an all-encompassing discussion on the impact of digital transformation on business outcomes. Mr. Praful Chavhan (Senior IT Manager - Safari Industries India Ltd.), Mr. Alok Lohani (Chief Financial Officer - Amoli Organics India Pvt. Ltd.) and Ms. Anisha Pawah (Associate Director - SAP SuccessFactors) participated in the talks. Ms. Pawah gave an interesting overview on human experience management, an area addressed by SAP through its SuccessFactors product. Several potential customers visited the event and were excited to explore new possibilities for their business with SAP.
Transformation Express bids goodbye to Mumbai
In a change to the usual customer visit agenda, a team from the Mumbai headquarters of long-time SAP customer Brilliant Polymers, India’s leading producer of laminating adhesives for flexible packaging, visited the Transformation Express stationed at The Leela.
The third and final night at Mumbai was marked by yet another gala event hosted by SAP partner BirlaSoft. Mr. Sangram Kadam (Vice President and Business Head, APAC and Meta, BirlaSoft) and Mr. Watve led the discussion that featured Pulkit Agarwal (Associate Director, SAP CX Practice Delivery, Birlasoft) and Pritpal Singh (Chief Information Officer, Right Tight Fasteners).
The third night too saw a bevy of future SAP customers visiting the Transformation Express and interacting with SAP leadership. The high participation numbers speak of the resounding success of the Mobile Experience Centre’s Mumbai chapter.
